Thailand’s First Ever Tree Climbing Championship

The Event

Thailand as a tropical country is blessed with abundant natural resources, especially big trees. This abundance, however, will not last forever if we do not value it and take good care of it. Hence, there is a need to rekindle the bond between people and nature, as well as for professionals with knowledge of proper tree care. We need more activities and spaces in the urban area to bring people and nature together and turn more people into tree professionals or arborists or experts on trimming and taking care of big trees.

One of the activities which can arouse the public’s interest in arboriculture and has been proven successful in many countries is a tree climbing competition that allows general adults and the youth to connect with nature and big trees in particular.

This year’s national tree climbing championship will be the first of its kind in Thailand. We will adopt rules and regulations from international events and invite experts on arboriculture who are registered with International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and have been involved with arboriculture training and international tree climbing competitions for a long time. They will help transfer their knowledge and skills to Thai participants who possess some experiences in arboriculture so that they will learn about procedures of international standards. In this way, they will become advanced arborists who can apply their knowledge and skills gained from this event to competitions in the future and also train other Thai arborists. This will enhance knowledge and potential in arboriculture among Thai arborists, allowing them to meet international standards and eventually become certified arborists. There will also be workshops for those involved in big tree conservation, tree house design competition, and activities to promote knowledge about and love of nature and big trees among the public.

Objectives

  • To promote awareness and enthusiasm among people who are involved with arboriculture to learn from one another.

  • To exchange knowledge and demonstration of up-to-date techniques and equipment to help them work safely and efficiently.

  • To help the participants of our workshops to become well-qualified arborists who are capable of educating and training others.

  • To enhance knowledge and potential in arboriculture among Thai arborists, allowing them to become ISA certified tree workers.

  • To build up a network of professional arborists.

  • To promote knowledge about and love of nature and big trees in our society through fun activities "for all" in which the participants can have hands-on experiences
